Sven Vilain graduated from NaRaFi in 1987 in the film and video department. In 1989, he became a freelance photographer and made reports and presentations for companies such as Agfa Gevaert, Sigma Coatings, LeeEurope, Pakhoed, Honeywell, Daf trucks etc.
Some time later, Sven Vilain expanded his field of work to include television work where he did editing and assembly work for programmes ranging from news and sports to the final cutting of broadcasts. He did this for VTM, BRT, RTBF, Supersport and Filmnet, among others. He was also a technician for VTM and tape manager and assistant technician for TV series (Kotmadam, Rad van Fortuin, Levenslijn, Wie van de drie, etc.). He supervised the installation and technology in capturing vehicles (analogue and digital) for all kinds of live sports events for national and international broadcasters (football, basketball, volleyball, motocross, indoor football, dressage, etc.). He was chief technician and head of editing at A&B produktie/ROB Television. In 2001, Sven Vilain became Chief Vision Engineer at Outside Broadcast nv. He was put in charge of the technical management of mobile production vehicles for TV captures all over Europe. Since 2002, he has been teaching at RITCS, is a professional photographer and co-owner of the production house Lightweaver.
Between 2003 and 2005, Sven conducted the PWO project ELMO, electronic learning environment for multimedia education, on the use of e-learning to distribute video rushes and receive finished editing exercises within an ELE.
In 2014, he participated together with PG in the research Nordic Light (supported by the MEDIA programme of the EU) on the browser-based pre-production working method ‘flow for factual’ of the company Limecraft.
