The timeline project originated from the informal collaboration between several educational programs. At different locations in Europe, students were working on a timeline of the history of technical theatre at the same time. These timelines turned out to not only be a more interactive way of looking at history, but it also provided new relations and showed divers points of view from the different countries.
Within our own research we regularly used these timelines already. These provided a better insight into relations between technical advancements and the changes in the scenographical construction of a performance. Additionally, “nests of innovation” became visible, moments when creative minds happened to be at the same place at the same time, accidentally or no, which led to new insights and techniques.
Because we found it a pity that the information could not be shared, we developed a digital version with the IT department of the RITCS, that will be able to show the results of the students from the different educational programs.
The timeline is a “work in progress”. At the moment it is still under construction. You will be able to follow our progress here soon: Go to timeline
