In the context of the historical research on technical theatre, students of de Pianofabriek, together with their teachers and collectors, developed an exhibition on the history of technical theatre between WWII and now. The Expertise Centre supported them in the structuring of information, the dating of the equipment and the general concept.
The exhibition showcased the incredible evolution that technical theatre had gone through during the past 50 years. Starting from electrical-mechanical equipment over analogue and digital technology, we have landed at virtual equipment today. In doing this, the emphasis was on Belgian manufacturers, and equipment commonly used in Belgium.
The historical image that was created immediately portrays the evolution of the profession. The electrician became an operator, the craftsman an artist. This is why the interfacing, which made it possible to “play along”, was central.
The exhibition ran from 8th to 29th March of 2014 and welcomed a high number of visitors. Right now we are looking into the possibility of retaking it, on request of several cultural centres.
