Expertise centre PAKT (Performing and Audio-visual Arts, Technology) is the successor of the expertise centre for Performing Arts. As a expertise centre for Schools of Arts RITCS and KCB, PAKT is situated at the crossroads of art and technology. Research into the technical and artistic added value of the latest developments in audio-visual and live art is linked to research into the history of the performing arts. KC PT has built up a reputation with research and services concerning (among others) competence management, sustainability & safety, and entrepreneurship in the performing arts – areas where it wants to keep its knowledge and services up to date. This methodological and substantive know-how is extended to generalised digitisation and to the field of extended reality: a catch-all term that covers various aspects of audio-visual and theatrical ‘illusionism’. Technical research into the past, present and future of staged illusion will always be tested against artistic experiments, first and foremost with makers and performers of musicals and musical theatre. At
the same time, the research will aim to develop new pedagogical tools on art & technology, which can make an essential contribution to the ‘classroom of the future’.
KC PAKT is embedded in the Bachelor programmes of RITCS (audio-visual arts, including stage technology) and KCB (musical), but also works intensively with academic programmes in the arts (audio-visual, theatre, music) and with partners from the professional field of the performing and audio-visual arts, at home and abroad.
